On April 2 Donald Trump said – “We’re going to bomb them back to the Stone Age where they belong.” The following day, Trump’s de-ranged secretary of war Pete Hegseth echoed his master’s voice and added – “Almighty God, who trains our hands for war and our fingers for battle – Grant this task force clear and righteous targets for violence. Break the teeth of the ungodly.” Before addressing Trump by name, Pope Leo delivered one of the strongest moral rebukes of war heard from a pontiff in decades. He said that God rejects the prayers of leaders “whose hands are full of blood.” Any-one with half a brain knew who he was talking about – who he was pointing at. His comments promoted a rebuttal from the White House. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt did what she does 24/7/365. She defended her orange boss saying that that there was “nothing wrong with military leaders or the president calling on Americans to pray for our service members.” Marie Dennis, former co-president of the Catholic peace and advocacy group Pax Christi said: “He (Pope Leo) is speaking from a heart broken by relentless violence. He is reaching out to people who are exhausted by war and hungry for courageous leadership.” Courageous leadership in the spiritual as well as the political world. In a few weeks from now Charles and his wife Camilla will set off for a visit to America. There, they will meet, greet and eat with men with more bombs than brains. Charles goes there as king, not as a religious leader. But he is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England which claims to be the nation’s moral watchdog. I wonder how he really feels about meeting-up with men spouting their obscene versions of the teachings of the Pale Galilean while planning to bomb millions of people back into the Stone Age.
