Diamond Mike Fernandes: Funeral details!

From the Goan Institute Nairobi:
Dear member, We sorrowfully inform you of the passing of Michael Fernandes in Toronto, Canada.
"Diamond" Michael Fernandes ( July 25 1942 - December 30 2025.
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Michael Fernandes: beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Mike was a man of open heart and gentle spirit, whose life was a gift to all who knew him. Born in Eldoret, Kenya, to John Baptista Fernandes and Aurelina (nee Gomes) Fernandes. Mike was the third youngest of 10 children. He learned early the values of sharing, sacrifice and unity. His compassion and kindness earned him the lifelong nick name "Diamond".

Mike built a distinguished career in aviation and logistics, begining with East African Airways and later becoming Partner and Director of Tradewinds Express, steering it to its impeccable status as one of Kenya's most valued export/import companies, handling air/sea consignments all over the world.
He created a home filled with warmth, laughter and generosity, extending care not only to his family but also to the less-privileged kids of Hurlingham neighbourhood, who came to know him as a father figure.

Hw worked hard and with true integrity and was always ready to help anyone in need. Mike found joy in the great outdoors: fishing, camping, boating safaris and fast cars and he very often treated family and friends to trips where they could enjoy all the wonders Kenya has to offer.

After moving to Canada in 1992 Mike took pride in his new pastime: cooking Goan and Kenyan delicacies. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved grandson, Oliver.

A man of deep faith, his devotion to Our Lady sustained him through his final days and never dimmed his spirit.

Mike is lovingly remembered bu his wife Cynthia, his children Mike jnr (Barb) and Michaela (aka Pupsi)his grandson Oliver and his brothers John (Gelatta) and Joseph.

We have lost a diamond but the light that dimond exuded will forever live in our hearts.
